How To Make A Cake Topper With Cricut
Firstly peel the protective backing off of both sides of your blank acrylic cake topper. Then break off a piece of tin foil slightly bigger than the size of an A4 piece of paper.
Straightaway start dotting small bits of your chosen acrylic paint colours onto the piece of foil. So long as it is random there is really not much else to it. Be aware that too little paint will make it harder, so don’t be afraid to use that paint.
Fold your foil in half and give it a little pat down and a squeeze everywhere that there is paint.
Open it up and see what pattern you have got, we weren’t happy so we have added a bit more gold in places we thought needed it. The beauty of it is that you wont be able to replicate it.
Then fold the foil again, but this time I folded it in the other direction. Opening the foil back up I am much happier with how the paint has created this marble effect.
Line up your cake topper with a part of the paint that you like how it has fallen.
Then once your are happy with the placement, apply pressure. So long as you can see that you have covered all surface areas. Then gently remove the topper from the foil.
Then clean up your edges before the acrylic paintt dries for a smother finish. We did this with a baby wipe. Look how stunning it looks! I used a metallic paint in there to give it that extra layer of dimension.
Using A Cricut Joy To Personalise Your Cake Topper
Time to get our trusty Cricut Joy out. Design and cut whatever vinyl statement you would like to place on your Custom Cake Topper. We have made ours to go on top of an Engagement cake.
Lastly, apply your vinyl, using transfer tape ( or what I prefer – masking tape) to the side of the topper that hasn’t had paint applied to it.
And there you have it a beautiful custom keepsake for your next celebration.
What Vinyl Is Used For Cake Toppers?
Vinyl that can be used for cake toppers are, Cricut Smart Vinyl, Cricut Permanent Vinyl, Cricut Removable Vinyl. If you plan on reusing the topper for another cake we recommend using Removable Vinyl.
