Method:
Firstly, to DIY personalised glitter wine glasses we always prep our glass!! Clean your wine glass with alcohol rub, this will remove any dust or oils that maybe on the glass.
Secondly, find a block that you can rest a highlighter on to draw around your glass to get a straight line. We actually used a love heart shaped ramekin (usually used to put Mod Podge into!) as it is the perfect height.
Choose a light coloured highlighter, we always steer towards yellow as it seems to work the best. Line it up next to your wine glass to see if that’s the desired height. We like it to be just short of 2inches, this will leave us enough room to apply our vinyl personalisation later.
Once you are happy with your line, grab your cheap tape. Make sure you de-tac your tape but unravelling enough to go around the glass, then applying it to clean dust free material a couple of time. This makes sure that the tape, when removed from the glass leaves no residue. As it can be annoying to have to remove this later in your crafts.
Time to reach for our crafting bestie, Mod Podge and our sidekick, our Royal Paintbrush! Start to apply the Mod Podge in thin even strokes. We don’t want to have streaky glitter do we?! Once the space from the stem to your tape is evenly coloured, start sprinkling your glitter all over. Be sure not to miss any sections. The first layer of glitter is always the most important, but also the trickiest layer as the Mod Podge dries very quickly on glass.
This is very important. Remove your tape immediately after you have tapped off your excess glitter. This make sure that your finished glass will have a sharp, straight edge and a good seal for handwashing.
Set the glass aside to dry. This does depend on your climate but aim to leave it for 3-4 hours. If you don’t leave it long enough you risk stripping off the first layer when you apply the second. So be patient!
Check your glassware by looking in the inside of the glass, if the white Mod Podge is now invisible, and its been left for 3-4 hours it will be ready for the second coat.
Take your paintbrush, some Mod Podge and apply over the top of the first layer of glitter. Again making sure to evenly distribute your Mod Podge. Sprinkle over some more glitter. We apply two coats because it makes the glass durable and the colour of the glitter more vibrant.
Set the glass aside again to dry for another 3-4 hours.
Take your Alcohol and put it on your cotton tip. We are going to remove the yellow highlighter from around the top of the glitter line. It should come off easily.
Pour Mod Podge into a ramekin. Using the metal end of your diamanté tool pick up some Mod Podge and apply a thin line around the top of the glitter line, in lengths of 2 inches at a time (we don’t want it to dry before we get to it) Turn to the wax side of the tool and pick up a diamanté and push it onto the line of glue. Repeat this process until you meet back around the other side of the glass.
After that you can then go ahead and apply your last layer of Mod Podge. This will be the sealant and allow you to handwash your glasses after use.
Put your glass aside to dry for 24 hours. You want to make sure those diamantes are firmly on the glass. So the longer you leave to dry the better.
Head over to Cricut Design Space, type your name, choose your font and size. Send it to your Cricut Explore, Cricut Maker, Cricut Joy or any other vinyl cutting machine you wish to use and cut your vinyl.
We have use Teckwrap Vinyl for our name.
Weed your name out and apply masking tape over your design. We use masking tape as we find it a lot easier, if not you can used transfer tape.
Finally apply your name carefully to the free space of glass between the diamontes and the lip of the glass.
And just like that you have a gorgeous, DIY personalise glitter wine glass to either keep for yourself or gift to a loved one.
