How Do I Tie A Ribbon Bow?
First things first, you need high quality silk ribbon. This will give you the prettiest, puffiest bow you could ever dream of!
Another reason you need high quality ribbon is because when you make a gorgeous decorative bow you want it to last a long time.
See this beautiful 1.5inch wide red ribbon below.
Cut a length of silk ribbon. We would give you a measurement but it purely depends on how big you want the bow to be at the end. Measure with your heart! But we would like to add – cut more than you intend to use as you can always cut off the excess.
Start by wrapping one of the ends of ribbon around your index finger. Matte side should be touching your finger, so that when you finish the bow only the shiny side is showing.
Wrap the silk ribbon around your index finger 3 times.
Taking the ribbon wrap it under your thumb and back over your index finger. Repeat this step three times. Going over the thumb and around the index finger.
Using the length of the ribbon tuck it over the ribbon you just wrapped and poke it thought the gap at the ‘C’ shaped part of your hand.
Be sure to keep the ribbon flat with the shiny side up.
To tie the bow with ribbon tuck it into the loop you just made and pull tightly. Pulling away from you.
Slide the ribbon off your finger and let the ribbon you wrapped around your index finger unraveled to reveal a stunningly gorgeous, perfect little bow!
There will be an ‘Ugly Side’ and a ‘Pretty Side’.
Your bow will have 3 layers and you can fluff them out as you please.
Now you can live your Coquette little heart out and place handmade bows EVERYWHERE!! 😉
How To Tie A Double Bow
Instead of wrapping the ribbon 3 times around your index finger and your thumb, only do it twice.
How To Tie A Hair Bow
Tying a hair bow may seem difficult if you don’t know how to do it but once you do you will be adding bows to everything!
The easiest way to tie a bow for hair is to follow the tutorial above.
How To Make A Burlap Bow
Do you need a burlap bow for a wreath? Not sure where to start? Use the same tutorial above for ribbon and apply it to the burlap. The burlap is obviously more textured than silk ribbon so you will need to be a bit more patient with the material.
Also this technique will work if you want to use another material. Maybe burlap is more your thing, give that a go instead. Let us know how you go in the comments below.
