You know when you go to grab something from under the kitchen sink for cleaning. Or you send your significant other to fetch something from under the sink and they have zero idea what they are looking for? Well we have just the storage solution for you!
My cupboard under the sink is tragic, its been like this since the day we moved in. You buy something and you shove it in pushing other products in to the depth of the cupboard never to be seen again haha! We are all guilty of it I am sure!
On Sunday I had enough of it and decided I was going to finally take action and organise it! Kmart was the saving grace because they have not only the cheapest, but the biggest range of storage solutions. And at an arms reach. I had got my inspo from multiple storage solution queens on TikTok and put a mixture of their ideas together.
I am really going to expose myself here but this is my cupboard before….
Oh gosh it is soooo bad!
Step 1
Firstly before doing absolutely anything is to go and measure your space! This is so important because you wont know what will fit. Not wanting to buy too much or worse buy too little and you cant complete your mini project! An overall measurement will do, I made this mistake, I thought my cupboard was way bigger than it actually is, plus you have to bear in mind how your pipes sit also. I brought a staggered shelf to put in there and it just would not fit because of the pipes. So please make your life easier and measure.
Then while your in the cupboard give it a good scrub, the sides, shelves, doors, plumbing, everything! So its nice and clean and ready to organise.
Step 2
Now the fun part, we are off to Kmart!! I did browse online for a substantial amount of time before I went and got all of my storage solutions. That way you can check if they are actually in stock. There’s nothing worse than setting your mind on ones you like and getting there and they be out of stock.
Don’t just look in the cleaning storage solutions either, get creative! The kitchen section is also a good place to look especially for a lazy Susan type piece we used for our everyday cleaning. The décor area may have some little drawers that you may like to utilize too.
While we were at Kmart we also picked up some hand towels, microfiber cloths and some empty spray bottles. Kmart really is a one stop shop.
Step 3
Now this was the most tedious part of the process. Removing all Kmart’s wonderful labels! You will definitely need some Isocol, and a truck load of patience. It was mostly the stackable drawers, I and to soak them in Isocol and scrub them with a Scrub Daddy. There were 4 and it probably took me a good 45mins!
While they were soaking in the Isocol i got to work on Cricut Design Space and created a bunch of labels. It is also important to measure the labels too. Again I made the mistake of doing the Everyday Cleaning one too wide and it wouldn’t fit so I made a smaller one and the E still kind of hangs over but I can deal with it!
I have previously purchased the font Lovespell so I used that for my labels and sent it to my Cricut Joy to cut. I used the longer cutting mat and squeezed as many labels onto that sheet as possible to reduce vinyl wastage.
As that was cutting I went back and finished scrubbing, then dried them off with some kitchen towel.
Cricut Joy has finished cutting my vinyl, I weeded, cut them out and applied masking tape as my transfer tape. As we all know I much prefer using masking tape for small projects.
I played around with placement of the vinyl until i was happy. Then I applied all my labels. Because i had already cleaned them in Isocol I didn’t need to prep them. Other than the inside of the cupboards I prepped them with a wipe over of Isocol and allowed to dry before I placed the vinyl labels on.
Step 4
Now comes the organising! Place all of your drawers, tubs, shelves whatever you have decided to deck your kitchen cupboard out with and arrange it as you want it. When you are happy with how it all fits place the contents of your cupboard back. This is a good time to have a bit of a clear out too. It was surprising what random things had been placed in that cupboard over the years!!
Step back, close your cupboards and prepare yourself for the most satisfying thing ever! Open the cupboard doors and just admire that organisation, how bloody good does that look!
Even the next morning before I went to work I just opened the cupboard, just to admire my work haha.
We hope you can achieve the same sense of feeling from a well organised cupboard with our storage ideas.
